Noritake Mariana Pattern Porcelain Dinner Service - A partial porcelain dinner service manufactured by Noritake in Japan, featuring the Mariana pattern. The pieces are constructed from white porcelain with an ivory-toned rim. Decoration consists of transfer-printed polychrome floral baskets filled with pink, yellow, and blue flowers, accented by brown scrollwork and swags. This motif is bordered by an outer blue scalloped line with black scrolls and an inner brown geometric checkered band. The undersides of the pieces bear a reddish-brown backstamp featuring a laurel wreath surrounding the letter M, with Noritake arched above, Made in Japan and Mariana in a cartouche below, and U.S. Design Pat. Applied For at the bottom. This mark was used by Noritake from approximately 1911 into the early 1920s. The set includes one large oval serving platter, ten dinner plates, ten large soup or cereal bowls, eight salad or dessert plates, five small fruit or berry bowls, and six small saucers.
