Chinese Cloisonne Enamel Magnolia and Bird Covered Ginger Jar - A small, ovoid lidded jar featuring traditional Chinese cloisonne enamel decoration on a brass or copper body. The exterior is finished with a sky-blue ground densely filled with wirework cloud scrolls. The primary decorative motif consists of blossoming magnolia branches in white, pink, and yellow enamels, accented by green and yellow leaves. One side of the jar depicts a small bird in flight among the blossoms. The shoulder of the vessel and the base of the domed lid are embellished with a repeating ruyi-head border in red, dark blue, and turquoise enamels. The jar is finished with gilt metal rims at the neck, foot, and lid edge. The interior of the jar and the underside of the lid are finished in a solid dark blue enamel. Height: 4.5 inches (11.4 cm).
