A 45-Piece Arita Fine China Imari Peacock Pattern Dinnerware Set - This forty-five piece porcelain dinnerware set was produced by Arita Fine China in Japan during the late twentieth century. Executed in the traditional Imari style, the set features the Peacock pattern, characterized by a central motif of a red and green hō-ō bird (Japanese phoenix) often referred to as a peacock, set within a landscape of scrolling floral sprays, rockwork, and stylized clouds. The decoration utilizes a palette of iron-red, green, and cobalt blue overglaze enamels accented with gilt highlights. The scalloped rims are adorned with alternating border panels featuring geometric diaper patterns and fish-scale motifs. The set includes dinner plates, salad or dessert plates, soup or cereal bowls, teacups, saucers, a large serving bowl, a lidded sugar bowl, and a creamer. The underside of the pieces bears a blue square seal mark containing the characters Kuni and Shu, above the printed text Made in Japan. Larger pieces retain original paper manufacturer labels from Arita Fine China specifying that the items are hand-decorated reproductions and laboratory tested as toxic safe.
