Rabbi Aviezer ben Rabbi David Tzitzovich (1892-1976) was born in Chechnovich. Studied at the Lomzha, Breinsk and Slabodka yeshivas, Was known as a diligent student and received a Hora'ah Semicha. In 1923, studied in Berlin at the High Beis Midrash for Jewish studies alongside secular studies at the university. After he graduated, served as Rosh Av Beis Din of Berlin. During the Nazi rule he refused to shave off his beard and survived several attacks. In 1939, he immigrated to Eretz Yisroel with his wife and six children. Later he was appointed a member of the chief rabbinate of Tel-Aviv and was a Rav of a neighborhood and the manager of the marriage department of the town.
The Ezras Torah organization was established during World War I for assisting rabbis and Bnei Torah and their families. Over the years, the organization helped Bnei Torah in Europe, the USA and Israel, in a wide variety of issues. For many years the institution was headed by the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Eliyahu Henkin and the Gaon Rabbi Yisroel Rosenberg.
