Sefer “Tzon Kodashim” on tractates Zevachim and Menachos – Amsterdam, 1755 – with stamps and handwritten signature of the “Bas Ayin” from his time in the Zhitomir Rabbinate. On the title page and the front flyleaf are stamps of the “Bas Ayin” from the time he served in Zhitomir during the late 1820s: “Avraham Dov of Zhit[o]m[i]r”. On the front flyleaf is also the holy signature of the “Bas Ayin”: ‘This Sefer belongs to the Y. Avraham Dov n”y’. On pp. 38/b-39/a are three blurred glosses in faded ink. The holy Gaon Rabbi Avraham Dov, Av Beis Din of Ovruch (1760/65-1841). A wonderous Tzaddik from the famous Chassidic Tzaddikim. Studied under the holy Rebbe, Reb Zusha of Anipoli and the holy Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berdichev, and was a distinct disciple of the “Me’or Einayim” of Chernobyl and his son the holy Rabbi Mordechai. Served for nearly forty years as Av Beis Din of Ovruch in Wahlin, and from 1826 served as Av Beis Din of Zhitomir. Ca. 1831 he immigrated to the Holy Land and settled in Tzfas, where he founded his Beis Medrash and became the Rabbi and leader of the Chassidic community there, which he led with mercy, charity, and incredible devotion. His name became famous worldwide after he was miraculously saved during the severe earthquake on Jan. 1, 1837, which happened as he was in his Shul during Davening. Part of the building collapsed, but the section in which he stood together with the other members of his Minyan remained standing – and is still standing today. A sign commemorating the great miracle hangs there stating: “How awesome is this place – the Beis Medrash of Rabbi Avraham Dov, the Admor of Ovruch, who forsaw the great earthquake of Tzfas in 1837, and through his great merits half of the Beis Medrash was saved from destruction, and the Rebbe and his disciples remained alive”. After the earthquake he rehabilitated the community of Tzfas, and refused to abandon it. Perished in an epidemic in 1841, after which the epidemic stopped. His holy Sefer “Bas Ayin” is very beloved by the greatest Tzaddikim and Chassidim who make a habit of studying it. 71 pp. Missing pp. 21-22. 34cm. stains and wear.
