Unique Tablecloth For the Bimah – Uncommonly Large Sized! Poland, 1858 - Immensely large cloth meant to cover the Bimah during Leining in Shul. Eastern Europe, 1858. Embroidered in gold thread is: “A handsome cover for the Table that is before Hashem, vowed for and donated by the honorable Master Avraham, son of Yaakov Tzvi Kahn OBM with his wife Mrs. Pesil of the Birerman family, in honor of G-D and for the glory of the new Synagogue, the year ‘for it is good for Israel’” (5618 – 1858). The cloth is decorated with a magnificent gold crown, flowers, leaves, a leafy border and stars, all embroidered in handsome gold thread. The cloth itself is crimson velvet. Tassles on the edges on three sides. The cloth is faded. Holes, originally made for decorative, semi-precious stones, which are missing now. Some fraying in the embroidery. Stains on the edges and lower portion. Relatively good – very good condition.
