Pamphlet “Eleh Mas’ei” – the Rabbis’ Journey. Frankfurt am Main, 1916 - Pamphlet “Eleh Mas’ei”, record of the Journey of the Rabbis to the new settlements of northern Eretz Yisrael in 1913. Frankfurt am Main, 1916. “Eleh Mas’ei”, the record of the journey of the Rabbis, members of the Committee to Increase the Value of Religion and Judaism in Eretz Yisrael, who travelled to tour all of the settlements of the Galilee and the farms there in the winter of 1913. Edited by Rabbi Yehonatan Binyamin Horowitz. L. Golda press, Frankfurt am Main, 1916. Historic background: This pamphlet documents a journey of Rabbonim to twenty six new settlements founded by members of the First and Second Aliyah. This trip, which took nearly a month, was intended to reinforce the keeping of Torah and Mitzvot in these settlements, and to enjoinder closeness of hearts. The participants included Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Hakohen Kook, Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld, a representative of the Clerks and Administrators Organization of Amsterdam, Rabbi Yehonatan Binyamin Horowitz, and additional Rabbonim. This pamphlet documents the journey itself, and the state of the settlements, with the purpose of “increasing the spirit of Judaism to its power and glory in the New Yishuv”. In the preface to the pamphlet, which was published in the middle of WWI, the difficult crises of those times, both in the new Yishuv as in the old one, are described. 52 pp. Wrapper cover with slight defects on the page margins. Damaged spine and detached galleys. Stains. Dog-eared corners. Fair-good condition.
