Rare Letter from the Household of the Holy Rabbi Shlomo of Chortkiv Regarding Lashon Hakodesh and Modern Hebrew. 1943
“The exalted in the nation, who have seen the great light of Lashon Hakodesh, cannot go in the darkness of the Hebrew language and to descend from the high mountain to the deep pit” – letter of Rabbi Yitzchak Ogenstein, the long-time Gabbai of the Rabbi Shlomo of Chortkiv, to Rav Amiel, Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv,   in support of Lashon Hakodesh.

Long letter, rich with deep and extensive sources, explaining why there is no connection between Lashon Hakodesh to the modern Hebrew language.

The letter was sent to Rav Amiel, who had published an article in the “Mishor” – a Mizrachi publication – regarding the importance of the Hebrew language and it being equal to Lashon Hakodesh.

It is interesting to note Rabbi Ogenstein’s sharp language, who is apparently writing this letter also in the Rebbe’s name, as he concludes his letter with the words: “From this it is apparent that Hebrew is a disgrace to the Jewish children!”

[1] large, lined paper, written on both sides. Stains. Light wear and tears. Good condition.
