The Rabbanim and Dayanim: Matityahu Siriru, Refael Even-Tzur, Yehoshua Monsonego, Yehuda Binyamin Siriru, Yitzchak Ibn Danan, Yosef Siriru. ✵ [2] sheets – including a Responsum which was printed in Sefer “Halacha LeMoshe”, §127, by Rabbi Refael Moshe Elbaz, regarding the disgrace of the dispute, and an agreement with the ruling of the Dayanim of Fes regarding the obligation of the small portion of the community in Debdou to participate in the payments for public expenses as set by the sages and Rabbanim of the city. The printed version lists Rabbi Refael Moshe Elbaz as the signatory, but on the text before us are signed the Geonim of Sefrou, the Rabbanim and Dayanim Rachamim Yosef Ejaini, Refael Moshe Elbaz, and Refael Abitboul. Sefrou, 1888. At the bottom of the second page – an addition by the Geonim of Mekenès, the Rabbanim and Dayanim Refael Even-Tzur, Yaakov Bierdugo, and Shmuel Amar. Copied by hand, with signatures of Rabbi Abba Ettia and Rabbi Yosef Halevi ibn Yuli. Rabbi Matityahu Siriru [the second] (passed away in 1891) – Dayan and Moreh Tzedek in Fes, from the greatest disciples of Rabbi Shelomoh Ibn Danan Rabbi Refael Even-Tzur [the last, son of Rabbi Shelomoh] (1830-1916) – Rabbi of Fes, Morocco. Immensely charitable, incredible Gaon, whose Torah library was one of the largest and most prominent ones in Morocco. Among his Seforim: Reservations on Sefer ’Beit Oved VeYom Menucha’, responsa, and rulings. Rabbi Yehoshua Monsonego (1826-1892) – Dayan in the Beis Din of Fes. Grandson of Rabbi Refael Aharon Monsonego, Av Beis Din and Rabbi of Fes. Collected and compiled collections of Halachic rulings of the Rabbanim of Morocco. Rabbi Yehuda Binyamin Siriru (passed away in 1920) – one of the great sages of Fes. Rabbi Yitzchak Ibn Danan (1836-1900) – Dayan and Moreh Tzedek in Fes, starting in 1879. Author of “LeYitzchak Rei’ach”. Rabbi Yosef, son of Rabbi Yehoshua Tzion Siriru (1842-1901) – Immensely versed in both the revealed and the hidden teachings, from the Dayanim of Fes. Authored responsa and rulings, most of which were burnt during the pogroms against the city’s Jews in 1912. What mostly remained from his writings are various rulings on which he was signed together with Rabbi Yitzchak Ibn Danan and Rabbi Shelomoh Ibn Danan, which were printed in their Seforim “LeYitzchak Reiach” and “Asher Lishlomo”. Rabbi Rachamim Yosef son of Rabbi Moshe Ejaini (Zini) (1808-1893) – orator and linguist and versed in all the Torah. Dayan and Moreh Tzedek in Sefrou and in Tunis. Member of the Beis Din of Rabbi Refael Moshe Elbaz. Author of “Lefi Sefarai”, “Lefi Sefarav”, and “Omissions of the Rambam”. Rabbi Refael Moshe, son of Rabbi Shmuel Elbaz (1823-1896) – known as the Ram”a, Av Beis Din of Sefrou, Morocco. Talmid Chacham, Kabbalist, and a Dayan, orator and poet, whose poems are sung at the beginning of the “Shirat HaBakashot”. Author of Responsa Halacha LeMoshe, “Darash Moshe” – his sermons, “Arba’ah Shomrim”, book of poems “Shir Chadash” and many more Seforim on Mussar, science, and all areas of Torah. Rabba Refael son of Rabbi Amur Abitboul (passed away in 1909) – succeeded his brother, Rabbi Chaim Eliyahu Abitboul as an excellent Dayan in Sefrou; is signatory to many rulings together with the Rabbanim of his generation. Rabbi Refael Even Tzur – from the sages and Dayanim of Mekenès. Left behind many rulings. Rabbi Yaakov, son of Rabbi Refael David Bierdugo (1786-1841) – from the sages of Mekenès. Publisher of his grandfather’s Sefer “Shufrei D’Yaakov” (Jerusalem, 1810). “The distinguished Rabbi, great in Torah and piety”, “the wonderous Rabbi, complete sage”. Rabbi Shmuel, son of Rabbi Aharon Elazar Amar (1830-1889) – a distinguished Dayan, poet, sage who was versed in all sections of the Pardes/ from the sages of Mekenès. Author of “Dvar Shmuel”, and “Shma Yisrael”. His biography is told in the Sefer “Imrei Avraham” pp. 222-259. Rabbi Abba son of Rabbi Moshe Ettia (1846-1932) – sage from Fes. “His pen and all his words are sweeter than honey” Rabbi Yosef Halevi Ibn Yuli – from the Dayanim of Fes.immigrated to eretz Yisrael and served as a Dayan in Tzefas. Uncased. Tears across several pages. Stains. Defects and short tears on the edges of some pages. Fair-good condition.
