Rare and Unique! Bookkeeping Notebook of Maran Rav Elyashiv – in His Handwriting - Rare and unique! Bookkeeping notebook of Maran Rav Elyashiv – in his handwriting! Notebook belonging to the Posek of the generation, Maran the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, from his younger years, in which he kept an exact accounting of all his finances – income and payments, debts and disbursements, and various payments received. 1937-1939. Maran ran Elyashiv’s extreme meticulousness and care regarding money was another of the jewels in the crown of glory and greatness worn by the pillar of ruling and halacha. Parts of the notebook are also written by his Rebbetzin, while most of it is in his handwriting. “Paid for water 80 Piaster on Parshas Vayigash”, “Paid during Sukkos over 30 Piaster for water”, and in such fashion all the expenses and income of the pride of Yerushalayim, Maran the Gaon Rav Elyashiv and his wife are listed. As said, part of the notebook is also in the handwriting of the Rebbetzin, Mrs. Sheina Chaya, daughter of the Yerushalmi Tzaddik Rav Aryeh Levin. And so between them they detail debts which they owe to others as well as debts owed by others to them and other financial transactions. The scent of the ancient glory of Yerushalayim wafts from among the pages, carrying within it the tale of extreme caution and meticulousness regarding money and the Halachot involved with it. In the notebook are mentioned the names of many of the glorious personages of the city (R’ Chaim the Melamed, R’ Kasriek Chasman, “the Chazzan of Stroik”, R’ Yitzchak Spiegelman, R’ Avraham Broida, R’ Yosef Steinberg, and more). 9 written pages, some very closely written. The rest of the pages are blank. Slightly detached cardboard cover. Overall goo-very good condition.
