Luxurious and Noble Paroches For the Torah Ark. 1908 - Luxurious, extra-large crimson velvet Paroches, donated by the famous philanthropist Mrs. Lemel. “In the year 1858, when this Synagogue was dedicated, this was donated by the woman Aliza Hertz of the Lemel family, and it was repaired and renewed by the leaders of this community in the year 1908”. The renowned philanthropist, Aliza Hertz Lemel, famous among the wealthy women of jerusalem, sponsored and founded many public institutions, of which the most known is the “Lemel” school, which the Rabbonim of Yerushalayim fought against. This lot is a luxurious and large crimson Paroches, which has been considerably well-preserved, donated by Mrs. Lemel in 1858 – almost 180 years ago – and which was refurbished and restored nearly 50 years later, in 1908, by the community leaders. Crimson velvet, faded and stained. Additional strip of wide cloth above. Light tears. The cloth is somewhat brittle and easily tears in places. Remnants of buckles. Relatively good condition.
