Noam Elimelech, New York edition – Segulah Sefer - Sefer Noam Elimelech, one of the foundational works of Chassidut, by the Holy Rabbi Elimelech of Lizhensk. Edition published in the midst of World War II. New York, 1942. Exceptionally rare condition – like new! Noam Elimelech, a cornerstone of Chassidic teaching, authored by the Holy Rabbi Elimelech of Lizhensk, one of the greatest disciples of the Holy Maggid of Mezeritch and teacher of the leading Admorim of the next generation (including the Holy Rabbi of Opatow, the Holy Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Rimanov, the Holy Chozeh of Lublin, and many others). Edition by the holy author’s grandson, Rabbi Yehoshua Wagschal. Printed by Schulsinger Brothers, New York, 1942. [14], 231 pages. Title and printer’s emblem in red ink. Printed “in a stately format, with clear block letters.” Includes a facsimile of the title page of the first edition and a partial list of earlier editions. This edition was published during the horrors of World War II, before the major turning points of the war, as the murderous German army was conquering country after country in Europe, suppressing, persecuting, and murdering Jews in the occupied lands. This edition was published with approbations from the first edition, including the endorsement of Rabbi Yechezkel Shraga Halberstam (Krakow, 1896), and new approbations from the Rebbe Rayatz of Lubavitch, Chief Rabbi of Eretz Yisrael Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Herzog, and the Union of Rabbis of the U.S. and Canada, from 1941. The title page states that the merit of the author will protect all who purchase and support the printing, for salvation, protection, and blessing in both spiritual and physical matters, “and to bring closer our redemption and the deliverance of our souls.” The terrifying context in which this edition was published, and the merit of the author on behalf of all of Israel in their time of distress, is reflected in the approbations as well: Rabbi Herzog writes in his approbation: “May the merit of the holy Gaon, the author of blessed memory, stand for us and all of the House of Israel in this day of trouble, rebuke, and revulsion, and may we soon merit the salvation of Hashem from Zion and in Zion.” Likewise, the secretary of the Union of Rabbis of the U.S. and Canada writes: “And may the merit of the holy Gaon stand for us in these days of darkness and obscurity, and for all who support and assist the aforementioned rabbi... and may we merit a speedy salvation and redemption, amen.” New binding.
