Important letter from Rabbi Moshe Kliers, Sivan 1925 - Torah letter from the righteous Gaon Rabbi Moshe Kliers, Av Beit Din of Tiberias, author of Torat HaAretz – sent to his friend, the righteous Gaon Rabbi Nachum Etrog, Av Beit Din of Safed – Sivan 1925 – Never printed The righteous Gaon Rabbi Moshe Kliers (1874–1934) was the foremost disciple of the Holy Rabbi, the author of Divrei Shmuel of Slonim. In 1900, when the Divrei Shmuel founded the Or Torah Yeshiva in Tiberias, he appointed his disciple Rabbi Moshe as head of the Yeshiva. In 1910, his Rebbe worked to have him appointed as the city rabbi of Tiberias. Both positions he fulfilled voluntarily, without payment, and on his tombstone it was engraved: ”נקי כפיים ובר לבב” — for he was exceptionally meticulous regarding others' property. All his life he lived in extreme poverty by choice, and he grew in Torah through tremendous toil and self-sacrifice, like the sages of old. He became renowned for his major work Torat HaAretz, in two volumes, on all commandments dependent on the Land of Israel. He also authored Tabur HaAretz on the greatness and sanctity of Tiberias according to Chazal and Kabbalistic writings. After his passing, his responsa Moreshet Moshe was published. Beyond his lofty stature in revealed and hidden Torah, he served Hashem with holiness and abstinence like the early Chassidim, humble and modest, and deeply connected to his rabbis with his whole heart and soul.
