“And there is no day in which its burden is not more difficult than the one before it—worries upon different worries, may Hashem have mercy” – a letter from the Steipler - Postcard in the handwriting of the “Steipler, ” from the period of his position as Ram in the Novardok Yeshiva in Pinsk – Cheshvan 5691 [1930]. Sent to his friend Rabbi Aharon Bereck, one of the heads of “Vaad HaYeshivos” and a close confidant of the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinski. In the postcard, the Steipler writes: “I hereby request urgently to send for Tishrei… the need is very great, and there is no day in which its burden is not more difficult than the one before it—worries upon different worries, may Hashem have mercy…” The great Gaon Rabbi Yaakov Yisrael Kanievsky, author of “Kehillos Yaakov” [1899–1985], one of the leading sages of the generation, revered and sanctified as one with Divine inspiration, whose every word was fulfilled. He was the close brother-in-law of Maran the Chazon Ish. He was named after the holy Admor Rabbi Yaakov Yisrael of Cherkass, as his family were Chassidim of the Hornosteipel dynasty. He was affectionately known as “the Steipler” after his hometown. In his final years, he was one of the leaders of the Torah world. His son and successor was the great Gaon Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, of blessed memory. Good condition. Filing holes.
