Miniature Siddur, the only one from the 18th century – Order of Prayers for the Entire Year. Amsterdam, [1739]. - “Seder Tefillot for Chadashim and Moadim according to the custom of the Sephardic community, printed by the command of the brothers, sons of the sage Rabbi Meir Kreshkash.” Printed by Naftali Herz Levi Rofeh. Amsterdam, [1739]. Extremely rare and tiny miniature Siddur. Dimensions: only 5.5 cm. Nicely printed on thick paper, easily usable. Following the title page is an introduction by R. Meir Kreshkash, who writes: “We have printed this prayer book in a small volume the likes of which have never existed before.” Bibliographic record in the computerized Hebrew Book Treasury: No. 97915. The smallest miniature Siddur printed until the end of the 18th century. There are several miniature books listed in the Jewish book treasury, some printed as early as the 15th century: a Siddur printed in Italy (see Freiman, p. 225–6), a Siddur from Breslau printed in 1494 (p. 236), and Hilchot Shechita from Lisbon, 1489 (p. 285). However, none of them were printed at such a small size—5.5 cm! It appears this is the smallest miniature Siddur printed up to the end of the 18th century. Impressive copy housed in a custom box – in excellent condition. Original red leather binding with floral decorations, gilt paper edges. An additional title page on p. 223. 218 leaves. Original binding, slightly damaged. Interior in excellent condition! New fitted box.
