Rabbi Yaakov David ben Ze'ev Ridva”z , ”The Rabbi of Slutsk” (1845–1914) – one of the greats of his generation, an Illui and diligent scholar who specialized in the study of the Jerusalem Talmud, author of several works including responsa, commentary on the Torah, commentaries on the Yerushalmi Talmud, and more. After serving as rabbi in various communities, he was appointed rabbi of Slutsk in 1890 and founded a yeshiva there. From 1903 to 1905 he served as rabbi in Chicago. In 1905 he immigrated to Eretz Yisrael and settled in Tzfat, where he founded the ”Torat Eretz Yisrael” yeshiva and disseminated Torah in the city. The community leader and philanthropist Rabbi Elimelech Perelman , one of the heads and leaders of the Chassidic community in Jerusalem, a senior administrator of the Vaad Haklali Knesset Yisrael, and a representative for the holy cities of Tzfat and Tiberias.
