Foundational Sefer: Chochmat Adam. First edition, Vilna, 1815. - Sefer Chochmat Adam on Shulchan Aruch Yoreh De'ah, authored by the Gaon Rabbi Avraham Danzig of Vilna, son-in-law of the Vilna Gaon and author of Chayei Adam. First edition. Vilna, 1815. This work was published a few years after Chayei Adam, which was first printed in 1810. While Chayei Adam deals with Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim, this sefer focuses on Shulchan Aruch Yoreh De'ah. This edition includes the approbation of the Gaon Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin, who rarely gave haskamot to new books. The author notes on the title page that Rabbi Chaim initially declined to provide an approbation, but after seeing how Chayei Adam was received among the Jewish people, he agreed to endorse this work. At the beginning of the sefer is an important introduction by the author, in which he explains his motivations for writing this work. He also notes that his previous sefer, Chayei Adam, was so well received among Torah scholars that the entire print of 1,400 copies sold out in a short time. Stefansky, Sifrei Yesod no. 205.
