Chiddushei Aggadah in Handwriting – By the Great Gaon Rabbi David Oppenheim – Never Printed! - Chiddushei Aggadah on Yalkut – Parashat Balak, Berachot, and Shabbat – In the Handwriting of the Great and Holy Gaon Rabbi David Oppenheim. Prague, c. 1820. Never Printed One leaf, written on both sides in the holy handwriting of the renowned Gaon Rabbi David Oppenheim, Av Beit Din of Nikolsburg and Prague, and Chief Rabbi of Moravia. These pages are part of his unpublished work 'Ir David', most of whose Torah writings and manuscripts were never printed. The work is structured in sections called “Batim” (“houses”), each dealing with a different topic. The present manuscript includes his Chiddushei Torah on Tractates Berachot and Shabbat, as well as on the Yalkut in Parashat Balak: “And Israel settled in Shittim, ” and the concept “Fire is one-sixtieth of Gehinnom.” This is Leaf A, written on both sides, with “Batim” titled Beit HaEphod, Beit Derech, and more—segments from full essays. Rabbi David Oppenheim [1737–1836] was among the greatest Ashkenazic Geonim of his time. Born in Worms, he received semicha at age 20 and by 25 was appointed Rabbi of Nikolsburg. After twenty years there, he became the Rav of the prominent city of Prague. The leading rabbis of his generation sought his approbations for their sefarim, and he granted many. He authored around twenty works in Halacha and Aggadah, including She’elot u-Teshuvot Nishal David, though most of his writings remain unpublished. [1] leaf, [2] written pages.
