The Very Holy Handwriting of the Rebbe, the Holy Rabbi Nachum Mordechai of Tschortkov — From the Teachings of His Father, the Holy “Ateres Yisroel” of Tschortkov — For Tuesday, the 3rd of Cheshvan - A Page of Divrei Elokim Chaim — ”Torah” Delivered by the Holy Rabbi of Tschortkov on Parashas Noach, in the Midst of the Exalted Hillula on the 3rd of Cheshvan 1923, which Fell on Shabbos Kodesh, at His Holy Table in the Capital City of Vienna The holy words were written with awe by his son and spiritual heir, the holy Rabbi Nachum Mordechai of Tschortkov, in the style of the Torah writings of his holy forefathers, of the royal lineage of the House of Ruzhin. In the body of the Torah he recounts stories heard from his holy father, Rabbi Dovid Moshe of Tschortkov, who told of his own father, Harav Hakadosh of Ruzhin, who possessed knowledge of thoughts. Later in the Torah are awe-striking teachings on the greatness of the Tzaddikim and the unique power of the Tzaddik to protect his generation — but only on the condition that the generation believes in him, for then he is able to draw down Shefa upon them and provide protection. The Holy Rabbi of Tschortkov expounds further on the matter of the prayers of the Tzaddikim on behalf of their generation, and the spiritual influence they draw upon them. In the Chassidic world, great value is ascribed to manuscripts written by elevated Chassidim and men of truth — faithful transmitters of the sacred words they heard from the mouths of our holy masters, the mighty of Chassidus. All the more so when the Torah is that of the King of Israel in his generation, the famed and exalted Tzaddik Rabbi Yisroel of Tschortkov, delivered in the midst of the Hillula of the holy Tiferes Yisroel of Ruzhin, and written in the very handwriting of his son and holy heir, the saintly Rabbi Nachum Mordechai of Tschortkov — their importance cannot be overstated. It is exceedingly rare to find Chassidic discourses and Torahs from the great leaders of Chassidus, in the actual handwriting of their sons and successors. The Holy Tiferes Yisroel, Rabbi Yisroel of Tschortkov (1854–1934), was the spiritual heir of his holy father Rabbi Dovid Moshe of Tschortkov, son of the holy grandfather, the Saba Kadisha of Ruzhin. He was one of the foremost leaders of Klal Yisroel, a shepherd of the Jewish flock, and among the founders of Hitachdus HaChareidim, later known as Agudas Yisroel. Among his devoted followers were the greatest sages of the generation, who heeded his every word — including the holy Geonim Rabbi Meir Shapiro of Lublin, Rabbi Meir Arik, Rabbi Shalom Mordechai Schwadron (the Maharsham of Berezhany), the Gaon of Tchebin, and many others. All the Tzaddikim of his generation revered and honored him, and in his time, thousands and tens of thousands streamed to his holy court in Tschortkov and Vienna. His son, the holy Rabbi Nachum Mordechai of Tschortkov (1874–1946), was raised on the knees of his grandfather, the holy Rabbi Dovid Moshe. He was the right hand of his father in both communal and private endeavors, and his father held him in great esteem and love. After the passing of his father, the holy community cleaved to him with heartfelt devotion, and he continued to bring their hearts close to their Father in Heaven, with awe and love, nobility and wisdom. After the rise of the accursed Nazis to power, he ascended to Eretz HaKodesh and settled in Tel Aviv, where his home became a spiritual center and gathering place for Chassidim.
