Leaf from a derush by the Ben Ish Chai, in his holy handwriting. - “The reason for detailing the fast in the laws of Yom Kippur” – manuscript from Derush 3 for Shabbat Shuvah by Maran the Ben Ish Chai. [2] pp. On the leaf before us, the Ben Ish Chai added slight erasures and corrections. The manuscript was printed with slight variations in the Sefer Ben Ish Chayil, Part 1, page 13, in Derush 3 for Shabbat Shuvah. Content of the manuscript:  “And in another way it appears to me, BS”D, the reason for detailing the matter of the fast in the laws of Yom Kippur more than voice (קול), and money (ממון). Let us begin with what is stated in the Midrash, Parashat Bechukotai, it is taught in the name of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai: the loaf and the stick were given together from Heaven. Hashem said to them: If you keep the Torah, here is the loaf to eat; and if not, here is the stick to strike. Where is the meaning of this matter implied? 'If you are willing and listen, you shall eat the good of the land; and if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured by the sword.' See there. Now one may ask: What is meant by 'were given together from Heaven'? It would suffice to say 'were given together, ' and furthermore, the phrase 'from Heaven' seems superfluous, for surely we know that everything is given from Heaven. And I explained BS”D… that the loaf is drawn from the attribute of Chesed, which is associated with the element of water, and the stick from the attribute of Gevurah, associated with the element of fire. And it is known that the name ‘Shamayim’ is composed of the attribute of Chesed and the attribute of Gevurah, as our Sages said: What is ‘Shamayim’? It is an acronym for 'Esh' (fire) and 'Mayim' (water), that Hashem brought fire and water and mixed them together and made from them Heaven... And Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, the author of this statement, came to teach us something further: like the loaf and the stick that descended together—as he said ‘were given together’—meaning that if you combine the letters of ‘loaf’ (ככר) and the letters of ‘stick’ (מקל), interweave them and mix them together, three new words are formed: כל, קר, מכ – meaning that it is...” Slight ink smudges, very good–excellent condition.
