Signature of Rabbi Shmuel Heller on a Compromise Agreement – Safed, 1874 - Compromise agreement signed by the Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Heller, Av Beit Din of Safed. Safed, 1873 [תרל”ד] “Regarding the disputes and legal proceedings that were between Rabbi Moshe Charag and his neighbor Rabbi Avraham Shor, and the Sephardi Rabbi Shimon, concerning the repair of the roof of the aforementioned Sephardi. Behold, they have reached a compromise between them of their own free will…” – a compromise agreement approved by the rabbi of the holy city of Safed, Rabbi Shmuel Heller. The agreement was made between neighbors in the city and discusses the replacement of the roof beams and the preservation of rights of use. Safed, 1873 [תרל”ד]. [1] leaf, with the certification and holy handwritten signature of Rabbi Shmuel Heller. The righteous Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Heller (1786–1884) – Av Beit Din of Safed, Gaon and Chassid. A descendant of the author of Tosafot Yom Tov, the Gaon Rabbi Yom Tov Lipmann Heller. In his youth he grew up in the home of the Chozeh of Lublin, received many blessings from his holy mouth, and even merited to eat at his Seder table. He ascended to the Holy Land at his advice during the 1810s. He miraculously survived after being seriously injured in the earthquake that struck Safed in 1837. After the passing of his Rebbe, the holy Rabbi Avraham Dov of Avritch, the Bas Ayin, he was appointed the Ashkenazi rabbi of Safed and served there for about forty years. He was known for his vast knowledge of medicine and pharmacology and brought healing and relief to the Jews of Safed. Fold marks, stains. Good condition.
