Jerusalem, 1947.  A special letter of recommendation, entirely in the handwriting of the great Gaon Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis, Raavad of the Edah HaChareidis and author of Liflagot Reuven, in support of Sephardic boys studying at Yeshivat Bnei Tzion. Jerusalem, 1947. [1] Leaf, official stationery, handwritten, signed, and stamped by Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis, Raavad of the Edah HaChareidis. The letter was written following a successful examination the Rav conducted for the students of Yeshivat Bnei Tzion, during which the boys answered properly and demonstrated that: “Among them are some with outstanding talents… and there is good hope before them that they will see blessing in their studies with Hashem’s help. It is a mitzvah to assist them and strengthen them in their Torah learning with Hashem’s help. And they are all worthy of receiving a prize in honor of Chag Ha'Matzot, that they may celebrate it joyfully.” The Great Gaon Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis (1864–1953) – Gaavad of the Edah HaChareidis in Jerusalem and one of the generation's leading sages. In his youth, he studied at the Volozhin Yeshivah, where he became close to his Rebbe the Netziv, who referred to him as a “living Shas.” He received semicha from the Netziv, Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Spektor, and Rabbi Shlomo HaKohen of Vilna (author of Cheshek Shlomo). He served in the rabbinate of various sacred communities. In 1938 he immigrated to Eretz Yisroel and was appointed as Raavad of the Edah HaChareidis in Jerusalem. He left behind a great blessing in his sefer Liflagot Reuven. Fold marks, stains, slight ink smudging, filing holes, light edge wear. Good condition.
