Kamenitz, 1939. ”Any support sent now to our Yeshiva is considered as saving the lives of the finest of our sons, and also saving the Jewish People, for it is already clear to all that we have no helper or supporter other than the Torah.” A letter from the great Rosh Yeshiva, the Gaon Rabbi Baruch Ber Leibowitz of Kamenitz, author of Birkat Shmuel, sent to the philanthropist Rabbi Avraham Meires and his sons, in New York. The letter was typed, with [4] lines in the holy handwriting and signature of Rabbi Baruch Ber, and with his stamp. The Rosh Yeshiva, Rabbi Baruch Ber Leibowitz, blesses the donors ahead of Passover and describes the financial crisis of the Yeshiva, following the global crisis which depleted sources of income, and the expansion of the Yeshiva due to the acceptance of students who were expelled destitute from Germany. The Rosh Yeshiva describes the shortage in the Yeshiva, and the Torah study taking place under pressure: ”Many of the students eat their meals without satiety, and coarse bread and a cup of tea serve as their breakfast and lunch... In such an orphaned generation, when one enters the hall of our holy Yeshiva, one sees a heartwarming sight, that thank God there are still young men more precious than gold, and the Torah still lives in the hearts of the choicest of our sons who dedicate the best of their youth and turn nights into days in the tent of Torah.” The Gaon Rabbi Baruch Ber Leibowitz (1870–1940) – One of the greatest Roshei Yeshiva and disseminators of Torah in his generation. Considered the foremost disciple of Rabbi Chaim HaLevi of Brisk. He served as Rosh Yeshiva of “Knesset Beit Yitzchak” in Slabodka, later relocated to Vilna and then to Kamenitz. Renowned for his holiness and righteousness alongside his towering genius. His lectures became legendary throughout Lithuania and Poland, and elite scholars came from far and wide to hear his fiery, deeply analytical shiurim delivered in the Brisker style of his teacher, Rabbi Chaim Soloveitchik. He authored the Birkat Shmuel series, which remain foundational texts in yeshiva learning to this day. Folding marks. Very good condition.
