Shu”t Perach Shoshan – Kushta, 1732 – Examplar of the Gaon Rabbi Binyamin Wolf Lew, Av Beis Din of Verbó, Author of Sha’arei Torah Sefer Perach Shoshan, responsa by Rabbi Yehoshua Shababo Zayn, one of the great sages of Egypt and Tzfas, son-in-law of Rabbi Yosef HaLevi Nazir, author of Mateh Yosef. Kushta, printed by Yonah ben Yaakov Ashkenazi, [1732]. First edition, printed in the author’s lifetime. On the first title page are various ownership inscriptions, including the signature of the Gaon, author of Sha’arei Torah:  ”חנני ד' בס'[פר] הלז נא'[ם] הק' ב' וואלף חוב”ק ווערבוי והגליל – קניתי מר' בער מפה” Additional ownership notes appear, including an erased inscription dated 1791. The holy Gaon Rabbi Binyamin Wolf Lew (1777–1851), author of Sha’arei Torah, served as Av Beis Din of Verbó. He was the son of the holy Gaon Rabbi Elazar Lew, author of Shemen Rokach (1758–1837). He held rabbinic positions in several cities in Poland, Bohemia, and Hungary. A renowned Gaon and among the greats of the generation of the Chasam Sofer and Rabbi Akiva Eiger, he was the teacher of many Gedolei Yisrael, including the authors of Machaneh Chaim and Kol Aryeh. He left behind works in all areas of Torah, including his renowned Sha’arei Torah. [1], 76 leaves. Fair to good condition. Stains, including water stains. Wear and worming. Old, damaged binding.
