Autographed Letter in the Holy Handwriting of the Rebbe the Holy Rabbi Chanoch Henich HaKohen Levin of Alexander – “This Sefer Torah Shall Not Depart From Your Mouth, Then You Shall Succeed and Prosper” – Prushnitz, Tishrei 1860 The letter before us, sent to his grandson Rabbi Yisrael Mordechai Morgenstern of Łódź after his marriage: “I rejoiced in your precious words that I received from you, and I also saw that you are in harmony with your distinguished in-laws, the noble family of Kulmo, and that their honor is precious in your eyes, and that they too are at peace with you – all of this has emboldened my spirit. But this Sefer Torah shall not depart from your mouth – then you shall succeed and prosper, and He will instill their love for you, with the help of Heaven, increasingly.” Later in the letter, he updates his grandson: “I received a letter from Kotsk from our dear friend the Rav Moreinu Harav Moshe David of Kotsk, who is sending you a gift...three Reichsthaler… I will not delay in sending them.” The holy Rabbi Chanoch Henich HaKohen of Alexander [1798–1870], among the greatest Tzaddikim of Poland. Considered L'Chakima D’Yehudai, a wondrous man and miracle worker. One of the foremost disciples of the Rebbe Reb Bunim of Peshischa and the fiery Saraf of Kotsk, he continued in the path of the Chidushei HaRim of Ger, and tens of thousands of Chassidim flocked to him. He also studied under the Yid HaKadosh of Peshischa. Among the tens of thousands who camped under his banner were his saintly disciples: the Sfas Emes of Ger, the Avnei Nezer of Sochatchov, Rabbi Avraham of Parysov, Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch of Tomaszow, Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch of Partzova, Rabbi Pinchas of Pilitz, and the Rav of Brisk – Tzaddikim, Rebbes, Rabbanim, and halachic authorities throughout Congress Poland. The holy Gaon Rabbi Yisrael Mordechai Morgenstern of Plock was the son of the pious Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Łódź and the Rebbetzin Brakha Shifra Miriam, daughter of the holy Rebbe Rabbi Chanoch Henich of Alexander, and son of the pious Rabbi Yisrael, brother of the holy Saraf of Kotsk.
