!זכור את אשר עשה לך עמלק Identification tag of a Jew in the Dachau concentration camp, with the inscription 'Arbeit Macht Frei'. Prisoner tag no. 00051, marking the prisoner as a Jew and a political prisoner. [1] Tag, with prisoner number and category marking as Jew and political prisoner. At the bottom of the tag appears the horrific inscription 'Arbeit Macht Frei'. The prisoners in the Nazi concentration camps were marked with cloth tags sewn onto their garments. On the tags of Jewish prisoners, two triangles were marked, creating the shape of the Star of David. The upper triangle, with its tip pointing downward, marked the type of prisoner, where a red triangle indicated a political prisoner. The lower triangle, with its tip pointing upward, was yellow to mark a Jew. The Dachau concentration camp was established in 1933, about two months after the Nazis rose to power, with the purpose of instilling fear in the population and suppressing opponents of the regime. As the systematic persecution of the Jews intensified, more and more Jews were imprisoned in Dachau. Following Kristallnacht, more than ten thousand Jews were incarcerated there. After the establishment of the death camps, Jewish prisoners from Dachau were deported there. In 1944, thousands of Jewish prisoners from Eastern Europe were concentrated in the camp, forced to work as slave laborers in munitions factories. Upon arrival at the camp, the prisoner was stripped of the last of his possessions, his head was shaved, and he received striped work clothes, a prisoner number, and a category mark by a colored triangle. The prisoners in Dachau worked in factories and in “work units” outside the camp. Some were sent to work in mines under harsh conditions without any safety measures. In the final years of World War II, tens of thousands of prisoners were exploited under brutal slave labor conditions in Dachau and in dozens of subcamps established nearby, mainly in the armaments industry. The prisoners suffered horrific subhuman conditions: hunger and disease, forced labor and exhaustion, terror and fear of the guards who abused them severely, and systematic murder of the sick and those unfit for labor. The Nazis planned to murder all the prisoners before their liberation, but they did not manage to fully carry out their plan, and some of the prisoners were liberated by the American army on 29.04.45. With the liberation of the camp, first-hand journalistic reports about the Nazi atrocities discovered there began reaching the world’s media, and Dachau became a symbol worldwide of the horrific Nazi concentration camps. May their blood be avenged. Good condition.
