Letter by Rabbi Eliyahu Reich, Dayan of Tyrnau, to Rabbi Aharon Reuven Tcharney, Av Beit Din of Bayonne, New Jersey – 1933 ”He says he is not my son but another man, and over this, my heart grieves and my eyes darken. My eyes, my eyes flow with tears without respite.” – A heart-wrenching letter in the handwriting and with the signature of Rabbi Eliyahu Reich HY”D, seeking help in locating his lost son who had emigrated to the United States and with whom contact had been severed. Tyrnau, 1933. [2] pp. Written and signed in his hand, with his personal stamp. Content of the letter: At the beginning, Rabbi Reich praises the volume of sermons authored by Rabbi Aharon Reuven Tcharney. He then pleads for assistance in finding his missing son, Avraham Shlomo, who emigrated to the United States in 1924. After hospitalization there, he ceased replying to letters five years later. Rabbi Reich requests help in verifying whether Dr. Solomon Reich, working at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, was in fact his son. Rabbi Eliyahu (Eduard) Reich (1870–ca. 1944, HY”D) – son of Rabbi Binyamin Ze’ev Reich . A disciple of Rabbi David Frankfurt (Dayan of Sabatitsch and Halascha), Rabbi Yehuda Greenwald (Av Beit Din of Satmar, Sabatitsch and Banihad), and later of Rabbi Simcha Bunim Sofer, the Shevet Sofer. Son-in-law of Rabbi Menachem Eliezer Schwartz, and father of Rabbi Binyamin Ze’ev Reich, Av Beit Din of Zsambokret, a disciple of the Daas Sofer. From 1904 served as Dayan and Maggid Meisharim in Tyrnau. Author of Mas’at Binyamin (1914) and Pirchei Ezov (1926). Rabbi Aharon Reuven (Zeidel) Tcharney (1888–1970) – disciple of the Volozhin Yeshiva, Ram in the Suwalki Yeshiva, later rabbi of the Orthodox community in Stepney (London), Brewer (Massachusetts), and rabbi of the synagogue association in Bayonne, New Jersey. Among the prominent Lithuanian rabbis in America. Author of Derashot MeHaChaim VeHaTeva, Chizyonot HaSaba, Ritzuf Ahava, Melamed Zchut, and Or Geulat Yisrael. Avraham Shlomo Reich (b. 1899) – son of Rabbi Eliyahu Reich HY”D . Student of Rabbi Yosef Tzvi Dushinsky, learned in the yeshivot of Pressburg and Frankfurt, and in the Berlin Rabbinical Seminary founded by Rabbi Azriel Hildesheimer. In 1924, he emigrated to the United States, working at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. Census records from 1940 show that he lived in New York with his wife, Ida, and their two sons, Harry and Alfred. His father, Rabbi Eliyahu Reich, expressed his deep concern for him already in the introduction to Pirchei Ezov on Pirkei Avot, where he composed a prayer for his son’s protection:  'ממעמקי הלב לפני ה' אוחילה, חמם בסתר כנפיך סלה ה”ה בני הגדול הבחור המופלג כה”ר אברהם שלמה נ”י' ואחיו Folds, tears and edge wear, with some damage along folds and corners.
