A Long, Important, and Foundational Letter from the Lubavitcher Rebbe zy”a – On the Necessity of Spreading Torah Among Jews Who Are Not Observant – Signed by the Rebbe, with Handwritten Additions and Corrections – Sivan 1956 “…If only all those who are God-fearing would go out into the streets and teach the Jewish people Torah—without first demanding that they become observant and only afterward teach them Torah. Through such broad dissemination of Torah learning, many precious Jewish souls would be saved for God and His Torah, and this would bring about great and swift spiritual rescue…” “Many of our Jewish brethren are drowning in the vast sea of ignorance, and this is the sole reason why some of them are not careful in their actual observance of the commandments.” This letter was sent in response to someone who was surprised to hear that the Lubavitcher Rebbe had explained concepts of gilgul neshamot (reincarnation of souls) to a Jew who was not Torah observant. The letter before us is typed on the Rebbe’s official letterhead, with his holy signature and handwritten words and corrections by the Rebbe himself.
