From the archives of the renowned Gaon Rabbi Tzvi Hirsh Heller Charif, author of Tiv Gittin. Sefer HaMachria by Rabbeinu Yeshaya of Trani Hazaken (Ba’al HaTosafot Ri”d) – Livorno 1779 – First edition – With the handwritten signatures of the Gaon Rabbi Tzvi Hirsh Heller, author of Tiv Gittin – With a marginal gloss signed in his Holy Handwriting. At the beginning of the Sefer is printed the approbation of the Chida. Signatures on the title page:  ”הק' צבי הירש העליר מ[...] יצ”ו”; ”הק' צ”ה העלי[ר] מזאמושטאץ כעת חופ”ק אונגוואהר” Ownership inscription on the title page:  ”שייך לאמ”ו הרב הגאון הגדול [...] ובקי פ”ה ע”ה כקש”ת מו”ה צבי הירש” On leaf 4/1 there is a short gloss in the handwriting of Rabbi Tzvi Hirsh Charif, signed at its end: ”צבי הירש העליר” The Holy Gaon Rabbi Tzvi Hirsh Heller, known by the title “Rabbi Herschel Charif” (1776–1834) – author of Tiv Gittin, among the Gedolei Yisrael in the era of the Gaon Rabbi Akiva Eiger and the Chasam Sofer (who, as is known, married in his third marriage the widow of Rabbi Tzvi Hirsh). He was born in Zamość in Poland; in his youth, he lived in the city of Rava and studied Torah in partnership with the Holy Rabbi Shalom of Kominka. Word of his sharpness reached the Holy Gaon, author of Baruch Ta’am, and through his influence, Rabbi Tzvi Hirsh was appointed Av Beis Din of Briegel in Galicia. From there, he was appointed Rosh Metivta in Brody. Among his disciples were the luminaries of the generation: Rabbi Moshe Tovish (author of To’afot and Karnei Re’em), the author of Responsa Rema”tz, and the author of Kitzur Shulchan Aruch, Rabbi Shlomo Ganzfried. He later served as Av Beis Din and Rosh Yeshiva in the communities of Ungvár and Bonyhád. In his final years, he was appointed Rabbi of Óbuda, where he served less than a year until his sudden passing on 25 Tishrei 1834, before reaching sixty years of age. He was buried in the old cemetery of Óbuda. Some years later, his grave was transferred to the cemetery in Budapest. He left many manuscripts, including Chiddushim on the Shas and Tur and Responsa, though most were burned. His printed works include: Chiddushei Tiv Gittin on Tractate Gittin; Tapuchei Zahav – sermons; Responsa – Yoreh De’ah; Responsa – Orach Chaim and Even HaEzer; Kuntras HaGaon R’ Tzvi Charif – Part I on the sugya of judicial discretion; Kuntras HaGaon R’ Tzvi Charif – Part II – Chiddushim on the Shas. 4; 80 leaves. 18 cm. Fair–good condition. Damp stains. Wear. Defective old binding.
