Letter of Semichah and recommendation from Maran the Da’as Sofer for a student of the Pressburg Yeshivah. Tel Aviv, 1940. [1] leaf, official stationery, in the handwriting, with the stamp and signature of the author of Da’as Sofer. The letter was written shortly after the Da’as Sofer’s immigration to Eretz Yisrael, on official stationery printed during his tenure as Av Beis Din of Pressburg. Above the printed word “Pressburg, ” the author added “Tel Aviv” in his own handwriting. The great Gaon Rabbi Akiva Sofer of Pressburg (1878–1960) — author of Da’as Sofer, one of the foremost leaders of his generation. Great-grandson of Maran the Chasam Sofer, and successor in the path of his ancestors, the Ktav Sofer and Shevet Sofer in leading the community and the renowned Yeshivah of Pressburg. Served as president of the Orthodox communities of Hungary. Immigrated to Eretz Yisrael shortly before the outbreak of World War II, re-established the Pressburg Yeshivah in Jerusalem, and served as a member of the Mo’etzet Gedolei HaTorah. Filing holes, fold mark. Very good–good condition.
