The great Gaon Rabbi Asher Leib Ginzburg–Wallerstein (1754–1837) was the son and foremost disciple of his father, the author of Sha’agas Aryeh. From childhood his extraordinary talents were evident. “And his father zt”l, testified about him before all, that his son possessed a sharper mind in Torah than he himself” (from the approbation of Rabbi Gedalyah of Metz, Av Beis Din of Badingheim, to Gevurot Ari on Ta’anit, Vilna, 1862). Upon his reaching Bar Mitzvah, his father declared: “My son Asher, since I have recognized that you possess a clear intellect and are a vessel fit for the Torah of Hashem, be strong and become a great man in Torah, and a wise son gladdens his father… you will be my honor after my death in the Olam HaEmes.” From the age of fifteen, his father studied with him all the tractates of Shas (ibid.). From 1783 he served as rabbi of Niederwöhren; from approximately 1785 he served as rabbi of Wallerstein in Bavaria; and from 1809 he served until the end of his days as Av Beis Din in Karlsruhe. During part of his years he also served as “Rav HaMedinah” in Würzburg and in Bavaria. He corresponded extensively with the Noda B'Yehuda on profound sugyot in Shas. In addition to his Torah greatness, he was also proficient in German, French, and Italian literature. Large folded sheet. [1] leaf (2 written pages). 32 cm. Excellent condition. Fold mark.
