Letter in the Holy Handwriting and with the signature of theTzaddik Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Ehrenreich HY”D, Av Beis Din of Shamloy, — Shamloy, Iyar 1937. ”ידידו המברכו בשמחת חג הקדוש הבע”ל [חג השבועות]” The present letter was sent to R’ Avraham Tzvi Friedman of New York, a supporter of the Yeshiva of the Rabbi of Shamloy, and concerns the redemption of a check sent to him as assistance for the printing of one of the author’s many Sefarim. The holy Gaon Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Ehrenreich, known as “Der Heilige Shamloyer Rav” (1863–1944), Av Beis Din of Shamloy — among the greatest Poskim of his generation and an exalted Tzaddik. Author of Responsa Lechem Shlomo and approximately forty additional works. Grandson of the holy Gaon, author of Kol Aryeh, at whose side he was raised and from whom he acquired wisdom. Among the foremost disciples of the Holy Rabbi, author of Kedushat Yom Tov of Sighet, and of his son, the holy Gaon Rabbi Yoel Teitelbaum of Satmar. In 1894 he was appointed Rabbi of Csaba, and at the end of 1899 he was appointed Rabbi of Shamloy. Throughout his rabbinate, he devoted himself to disseminating Torah to students in the renowned Yeshiva he founded. Even in the early years of the war, he engaged in printing his works, writing that “by this we demonstrate the greatness of our love for Torah within us.” He was murdered in the Holocaust together with his community and family in Auschwitz on 11 Sivan 1944. He led his congregation with strength and resolve, enacted communal ordinances, established a Yeshiva and Talmud Torah, and left a lasting legacy in his many Sefarim, including Lechem Shlomo, Beit Shlomo, Em LaBinah, and many others.
