Annotations in the holy handwriting of the Yaavetz in the margins of the leaves of his Sefer Mor U’Ketziah Sefer Mor U’Ketziah on Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim, Part II, Altona, 1768 — first edition — with unpublished annotations in the holy handwriting of the author, the holy Gaon Rabbi Yaakov Emden (the Yaavetz) — the annotations were not printed even in the recent editions. Author’s press — with a map of Eretz Yisrael. Between the leaves of the Sefer are approximately ten handwritten glosses and corrections of printing errors in His Holy Handwriting of the author. (These corrections were not incorporated even into the modern Bomberg edition.) Accompanied by expert certificates confirming the handwriting as that of the Yaavetz. The Sefer was printed in the author’s private printing house. At the bottom of the title page is printed: ”נדפס באלטונה - בבית המחבר” In Volume II, on leaf 97/2, is printed a map of Eretz Yisrael. Gedolei Yisrael greatly praised the value of the works of the Yaavetz. It is related of Maran the Chasam Sofer that “from his youth his soul longed for the works of the Gaon Moreinu Harav Rabbi Yaakov Emden , and Siddur Amudei Shamayim was his delight” (Likutei Chaver Ben Chaim). Elsewhere, the Chasam Sofer refers to him as “the greatest of the later Achronim” (Yoreh Deah 264). Regarding a citation from his Sefer Mitpachat Soferim, the Chasam Sofer writes: “You will find there that the holy sage spoke a very great matter on this subject; behold, its readers will be astonished” (Responsa Chasam Sofer, Part VI, no. 59). Maran the Baal Shem Tov zy”a said of him: “Although he is not a Chassid, he is constantly attached to the three upper Sefirot, ” namely Chochmah, Binah, and Da’at (Chakal Yitzchak of Spinka, in his approbation to Etz Avot). It is further related that the Baal Shem Tov said to Rabbi Ephraim, the brother of the Yaavetz: “Your brother, the Yaavetz, is attached all day to the upper worlds.” In Tzeror HaChaim, in the name of the Baal Shem Tov, it is recorded: “The Chacham Tzvi had five sons, and regarding all of them the Baal Shem Tov said that Ruach HaKodesh rested upon them; of one of them he greatly expanded in praise without revealing his identity, and the companions said that his intent was the holy Gaon Moreinu Harav Rabbi Yaakov Emden, zy”a.” On the title page are two later ownership stamps of Rabbi Yaakov Pinchas Ashkenazi of Tiberias. 95, 97–99 leaves. 30 cm. Most leaves in good condition (with the exception of the first seven leaves). Large tears to the title page, restored with paper infill. New binding.
