Orphaned in childhood of his father Rabbi Avraham Mordechai, son of the Chiddushei Harim, he was raised in the home of his illustrious grandfather. Upon his grandfather’s passing, the community looked to him, but he declined to accept leadership and attached himself to Rabbi Chanoch Henich of Alexander. In 1870 he began leading the Gur Chassidim. He would customarily write his teachings on the weekly Parashah and Moadim himself on Sunday mornings, wearing Rabbeinu Tam tefillin. These teachings were later gathered after his passing into the profound and foundational Sefer: Sfas Emes. [4], 112 leaves. 20 cm. Fair condition. Waterstains. Wear.
