“Letter of receipt, thanks, and blessing” from members of one of the “Kollelim” in Tzefas — sent to the Admor Harav HaKadosh Rabbi Aharon Moshe of Zolin (son of Harav HaKadosh Rabbi Mordeche’le of Nadvorna), for the generous funds that he raised on their behalf — eighty-three signatures of the foremost of the Chassidic community in Tzefas — fine and ornate leaf with gilt lettering — Tzefas, Tammuz 1914 An ornate letter in appreciation to ”כבוד קדושת אדמו”ר הרב הצדיק הקדוש והטהור... אהרן משה... בעי”ת זאלין” who donated money to the poor of Eretz Yisrael. The recipients of the charity prayed for the salvation of the Admor and his people, and bless him לעילא מכל ברכתא, לרעות בישראל עמו ונחלתו ולהיות פועל ישועות וברכות והצלחות לישורון עד ביאת הגואל, בב”א At the bottom of the letter were written the names of 83 recipients of the donation, and the sum received by each was noted. Most of the recipients — including outstanding Torah scholars in Torah and Chassidus — also added their handwritten signature or their stamp to the letter, and they are among the great and mighty of Chassidus in Eretz Yisrael of that period, descendants of the Tzaddikim of the generations and heads of extensive families in the Chassidic Yishuv until our time. The present letter constitutes a first-rate historical document regarding life in Eretz Yisrael in general and in Tzefas in particular, during the period in which World War I erupted. The letter explains that the donation sustains the souls of the poor, and is especially important “in these distressed times.” Shortly before the writing of the letter, World War I broke out, and the distress of the times intensified greatly. [2] leaves, checkered paper, ornate sofer script, incorporating gilt ink, 38 cm. Harav HaKadosh Rabbi Aharon Moshe Leifer of Zolin–Lancut (1855–1925), son of Rabbi Mordechai of Nadvorna. He settled in Zolin and became renowned as the Admor of Nadvorna. In 1912 he moved to Lancut and his home became an address for all in need, and many gathered around him. He occupied himself with Torah and Tefillah; he was adorned with Tallis and Tefillin throughout the week; he would fast from Shabbos to Shabbos, and he was famed as a Baal Mofes, with many salvations associated with his name.
