Dozens of lengthy glosses of Moreinu Harav Reb Menachem Azarya of Pano Manuscript, Sefer HaKavanos by Moreinu Harav Reb Chaim Vital on Moadim, copied from his early writings — with dozens of lengthy annotations in the holy handwriting of the greatest of the Italian Kabbalists, the G-dly Kabbalist Rabbi Menachem Azarya of Pano — with annotations that were never printed — Italian script, approximately one hundred and fifteen pages — Mantua, mid-16 The manuscript before us is divided into three volumes, and this is their content: A. Kavanos for Rosh HaShanah and Yom HaKippurim. Fifty pages. Part of the annotations in this volume were printed (under the name of the Kabbalist Rabbi Moshe Zacuto, in Sefer Kavanos Yashan Im Hagaos HaRamaz, published by Rabbi Yitzchak Nachum, Betachah, 2013). B. Kavanos for Chag HaSukkos. Twenty-four pages. Most of the annotations in this volume were never printed. C. Kavanos for Chag HaPesach and Sefiras HaOmer. Forty-two pages. All of the annotations in this volume were never printed. It is worthy of note that in the first volume on the Yamim Nora’im, the Rema of Pano explicitly mentions his essay Chakor Din printed in his great Sefer Asarah Maamaros, as follows: “See the essay Chakor Din in this discourse and do not move from it, for our forefathers left us a place.” Another point worthy of note is that in the volume on Sukkos he disagrees with the Arizal, writing there that when shaking the Lulav downward, one should also turn the top  of the Lulav downward, and he explains according to Kabbalah why there is no concern that it is not in the manner of its growth. An authentication by the foremost expert in Kabbalistic manuscripts of our generation, Rabbi Yosef Avivi, is attached to the present manuscript. In his authentication, Rabbi Avivi also details that the work itself by Moreinu Harav Reb Chaim Vital is of the highest importance. He concludes his words, writing: “This is an important manuscript in an unusually exceptional manner. A very early copy of Sefer HaKavanos of Rabbi Chaim Vital, with notes in the very handwriting of the Rema of Pano.” The holy Gaon, the G-dly Kabbalist, Moreinu Harav Reb Menachem Azarya  of Pano (1548–1620), was among the greatest of the Kabbalists and among the leading Poskim of his generation. Head of a great Yeshiva in Italy. Revered and sanctified by the Gedolei HaDor of all generations. Maran the Chasam Sofer called him “the father of the Kabbalists”; Maran the Yaavetz and Rabbeinu Yehonasan Eybeshitz both determined that he is “the great Rav, holy and pure, ” and “May every mother who gives birth merit to bear one like Moreinu Harav Reb Menachem Azarya.” He authored Shu”t Rema M'Pano and other important Sefarim, 'Yonas Eilem' and Sifrei Kabbalah.
