Long and Moving Letter from Harav HaKadosh Rabbi Avraham Yaakov Friedman, Author of Avir Yaakov of Sadigura, to HaGaon Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac HaLevi Herzog, Chief Rabbi of Eretz Yisrael In the letter, the Admor of Sadigura requests assistance in obtaining a certificate (immigration permit) for his niece, the young Malka Heschil, daughter of the Admor Harav HaKadosh of Kopyczynce, who was then residing in Vienna. “For it is impossible to describe to Your Honor the great anguish and suffering that we—myself and my wife the Rebbetzin, may she live—have endured because of this matter, since the above-mentioned young woman was raised and educated with us from her childhood until now. And if, G-d forbid, we will not succeed in bringing her here in the shortest possible time, this may, Heaven forbid, greatly affect the health of my wife the Rebbetzin, may she live, whose strength has already greatly weakened since the time of the Nazi regime, may their name be blotted out…” The letter appears on the official stationery of the Admor, bearing his Tel Aviv address. Harav HaKadosh Rabbi Avraham Yaakov of Sadigura, author of Avir Yaakov, son of Rabbi Yisrael of Sadigura, was among the renowned Tzaddikim of the generation. He was one of the leaders of Agudas Yisrael worldwide, among its most prominent guiding figures and among those who directed the path of organized Charedi Judaism. He was a leading member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah and, for a short period, served as its president. Among the founders of Charedi education in Eretz Yisrael, he worked tirelessly to strengthen Torah and purity among the Jewish people. He passed away in 1961, leaving no surviving offspring. His nephew, the Admor Rabbi Yitzchak Meir of Kopyczynce, was raised in his shadow, educated and shaped under his guidance, and leads his court in Jerusalem in the spirit and legacy of his uncle and the glory of the House of Ruzhin.
