Manuscript of HaGaon the Illustrious Rabbi Yosef Engel, Author of Otzros Yosef – Leaf from His Great Work Otzros Yosef – Two Large Written Pages Before us are two large pages in the Handwriting of the renowned and illustrious Gaon Rabbi Yosef Engel, from his great work Otzros Yosef (Warsaw, 1929), Chiddushim on Yoreh Deah, p. 21 and onward. [1] leaf (2 written pages). 33 cm. Good condition. Minor tears at the margins, without damage to the text. Gaon HaGaonim Rabbi Yosef Engel (1859–1920), Mara DeKulei Talmuda, possessed extraordinary mastery and sharpness in all parts of the Torah, both revealed and hidden. All his life, he was like a constantly flowing spring and an unceasing river, innovating with Divine assistance in every area of Torah from his youth until the end of his days. During his lifetime, he composed one hundred and twenty works in all areas of Torah. Among the most famous, which established his lasting reputation, are: Lekach Tov, Beis HaOtzar, Atvan DeOraysa, Gilyonei HaShas, Otzros Yosef, Ayin Panim LaTorah, Gevuros Shemonim, and others. Regarding his extraordinary breadth of knowledge, HaGaon Rabbi Shlomo Yosef Zevin wrote that it was: ”בלתי מצויה בגדולי התורה ובלתי רגילה בספרים”. In 1905 he was appointed Av Beis Din of Krakow, serving until the outbreak of World War I, and at the beginning of 1915 he moved to Vienna, where he resided until his passing on Rosh Chodesh Mar-Cheshvan 1920.
