Poland, 1918. “Ashtertel Poema”, manuscript of an unknown story on the history of the Jews of the town of Słomniki in Poland, by Reb Lipman Berkowitz. Częstochowa, Poland, 1918. [2], 47 pages. Manuscript written in red ink. Illustrated frame on the title page, Yiddish. With the stamps and signatures of the author. With stamps 'יהודה בערקאוויטץ', and with the ownership signature 'משה פייגענבוים'. With a few handwritten notes in pencil on sections that were translated, and on matters missing or requiring clarification. Reb Lipman Ben Reb Meir Tzvi Berkowitz (Lipman Berkowitz) — among the Yiddish writers in Poland, from Będzin and Częstochowa; elected to the leadership of the Poalei Agudas Yisrael organization in Będzin and among the editors of the movement’s periodical in that branch. He immigrated to Eretz Yisrael and published in Tel Aviv in 1936 the booklet “HaPoel HaChareidi: Dedicated to the Affairs of the Poalei Agudas Yisrael Movement in Eretz Yisrael.” Wrapper binding; stains; good condition.
