Enthusiastic Letter of Recommendation from Maran HaGaon, Rabban Shel Kol Bnei HaGolah, Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinski of Vilna, Regarding HaGaon Rabbi Nachman Zaks of Telz, Son-in-Law of HaGaon Rabbi Zalman Moshe Yaffe. No Date. A long letter written in manuscript, apparently in the handwriting of his trusted associate and close confidant Rabbi Yosef, the Shochet u’Bodek. At the bottom appears the handwritten signature and stamp of Maran HaGaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer. In the letter, it is written that Rabbi Zaks, a native of Telz, studied in his youth in the Ohalai Shem of Vilna, where he became proficient in Shas and Poskim, and later served as Rav in one of the communities. During World War I he wandered and served as Rav in Russia. However, due to the severe persecutions directed against Rabbanim, he was forced to continue his wandering and proceed to Eretz HaKodesh. Rabbi Chaim Ozer writes that he recognizes him as one of the outstanding and distinguished scholars, and now that he is ascending to Eretz HaKodesh, he should be appointed to as important a Rabbinic position as possible. The original envelope of Maran Rabbi Chaim Ozer of Vilna is included. [1] large official letter sheet. [1] paper envelope. Tears along the fold lines repaired with old paper tape.
