“How Much Will the Construction of the Yeshiva in Baranovitch Cost?” – Historical Letter by Maran HaGaon HaKadosh Rabbi Elchanan Wasserman Detailing the Expenses of the New Building of His Yeshiva, Written Only Months before the Destruction. The letter, written on official stationery of the wood-industries company of Reb Yechiel Rabinowitz of the city of Baranovitch, presents in his handwriting a detailed account of all the costs of the “building at the holy Yeshiva Ohel Torah in Baranovitch, ” including the expenses for boards, iron, and all types of metals. Upon the signed account, Rabbi Elchanan added in His Handwriting that all these expenses are for the needs of the public and for the construction of the additional building for the kitchen and the Yeshiva—namely, the dining hall and kitchen of the Yeshiva students: “According to the estimate, about another thousand zloty will still be required to complete the work.” Rabbi Elchanan notes that Reb Yechiel Rabinowitz serves as the authorized and trusted treasurer of the Yeshiva funds.
