Extremely Important Letter by HaGaon Rabbi Moshe Feinstein on the Obligation of Constant Anticipation for the Coming of Mashiach and the Rebuilding of the Beis HaMikdash Every Day and Every Moment – Sent to His Nephew HaGaon Rabbi Michel Feinstein – Part of the Letter Was Not Printed – New York, 11 Nissan 1979 “The obligation every day to anticipate, almost with certainty, every hour that it will be rebuilt.” Thus writes HaGaon Rabbi Moshe Feinstein to his nephew several days before the arrival of Pesach: “…And may we merit on it [the Yom Tov Pesach], together with all of Israel, the redemption for which we constantly anticipate and await, and also the rebuilding of the Beis HaBechirah, and that we may fulfill the Mitzvah of the Korban Pesach, even if in a state of impurity. And during the six days to also fulfill the Mitzvos of Re’iyah, Chagigah, and rejoicing with Shelamim, as in the prophecy of Malachi: ‘And suddenly the Master whom you seek will come to His Sanctuary’… For all the appointed times that even the greatest sages spoke of have already passed, and therefore on any day He may come suddenly… according to our pure faith He can come at any moment… for the obligation every day is to anticipate, almost with certainty, every hour that it will be rebuilt… therefore certainly we must bless for this…” This remarkable letter was printed in his great work Igros Moshe, vol. VIII, Siman 8, p. 12. However, the final portion of the letter, containing personal and family matters, was omitted in print. Written on official stationery. HaGaon Rabbi Moshe Feinstein (1895–1986) – among the greatest Halachic authorities of the last generation and the spiritual leader of Orthodox Judaism in the United States. He served as Chairman of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of Agudas Yisrael of America and as Rosh Yeshiva of Mesivta Tiferes Yerushalayim. His extraordinary diligence in Torah study and his unparalleled mastery of all areas of Torah were widely renowned.
