Letter of Blessing for a Wedding from the Eminent Gaon Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis, Raavad of the “Edah HaChareidis, ” Author of Leflagos Reuven – Sent to the Gaonim Rabbi Yechezkel Sarna and Rabbi Hillel Witkind – on the Occasion of the Marriage of an Illui Ben Illui, the Gaon Rabbi Dovid Finkel, Orphaned Son of the Gaon Rabbi Moshe Finkel – Menachem Av 1949 The Gaon Rabbi Dovid Finkel was orphaned in infancy from his father, the Gaon Rabbi Moshe Finkel (son of the Saba of Slabodka), and from then on grew up as a member of the household of his uncle, the Gaon Rabbi Yechezkel Sarna, Rosh Yeshiva of Chevron. In Av 1949, he married the daughter of the Gaon Rabbi Hillel Witkind. The eminent Gaon Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis (1864–1953) – Gaavad of the Edah HaChareidis in Jerusalem and among the Gedolei HaDor. At a young age he began studying in the Volozhin Yeshiva, where he became close to his Rebbe, the Netziv, who referred to him as a “living Shas.” Rabbi Bengis received rabbinic ordination from the leading Gedolim of his generation: his Rebbe the Netziv, the Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Spektor, and the Gaon Rabbi Shlomo HaKohen of Vilna, author of Cheshek Shlomo. He served as Rav in several communities. In 1938 he immigrated to Eretz HaKodesh and was appointed Raavad of the Edah HaChareidis in Jerusalem.
