Letter of Blessing for a Wedding from the Gaon Rabbi Yechiel Yaakov Weinberg, Author of Seridei Eish – Sent to His Close Friend HaGaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Yechezkel Sarna, on the Occasion of the Marriage of His close student, the Illui Rabbi Dovid Finkel (Grandson of the Saba of Slabodka) – Mar-Cheshvan 1949 A lively and interesting letter, written with great feeling and rich expression. The Gaon Rabbi Dovid Finkel was orphaned in infancy from his father, the Gaon Rabbi Moshe Finkel (son of the Saba of Slabodka), and from then on grew up as a member of the household of his uncle, the Gaon Rabbi Yechezkel Sarna, Rosh Yeshiva of Chevron. In Av 1949 he married the daughter of the Gaon Rabbi Hillel Witkind. In the present letter Rabbi Yechiel Yaakov Weinberg writes, among other things: “…If I were nearby, I would certainly hasten eagerly to participate in the joy of their wedding, and I feel myself close to the groom through his father [the Gaon Rabbi Moshe Finkel] and through his mother [the daughter of the Gaon Rabbi Moshe Mordechai Epstein] together, as I was a disciple of both of these great fathers of the world, zy”a—his grandfathers” [the Saba of Slabodka, father of Rabbi Moshe Finkel, and Rabbi Moshe Mordechai Epstein].
