Postcard from the Gaon Rabbi Aharon Wolkin, HY”D, Av Beis Din of Pinsk, Author of Zeken Aharon – Sent to the Central Office of the “Vaad HaYeshivos.” Elul 1925 Background: The Vaad HaYeshivos was established in 1924 by Maran the Chafetz Chaim and the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinski. As part of its framework, every family in Lithuania and its environs was called upon to donate at least eighteen gold coins annually for the support of the Yeshivos. In addition, every Rav was asked to travel at least two weeks each year to one of the cities to deliver Derashos on Shabbos to inspire the public regarding the great importance of supporting Torah, and during the weekdays to collect contributions. Concerning such a journey, Rabbi Aharon Wolkin writes to the Vaad HaYeshivos specifying to which city and for which Shabbos he wishes to travel. The eminent Gaon Rabbi Aharon Wolkin of Pinsk , author of Zeken Aharon (1865–1942), was among the leading Poskim in Lithuania between the World Wars and a student of the Volozhin Yeshiva. He illuminated Israel with his Torah and Halachic rulings. The greatest scholars of the generation addressed their Halachic questions to him, among them Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinski of Vilna and the Imrei Emes of Gur. He was among the founders of Agudas Yisrael in Lithuania and was active within it on behalf of the Jewish people. He served as Rav of several towns until assuming the Rabbinate of Pinsk, with which his name became associated. Good condition. Filing holes with slight damage to the text.
