Rare Letter Containing Unpublished Torah Subjects by the Imrei Emes of Gur! With numerous blessings for success and recovery, including a Halachic inquiry addressed to the Admor of Sokołów. “And may Hashem have mercy and bring my wishes to success speedily.” Letter from Maran the Imrei Emes to his brother-in-law, concerning matters of health and success, and regarding a clarification in the words of the Rambam. [1] leaf, in the handwriting and signature of Harav HaKadosh Rabbi Avraham Mordechai Alter of Gur. Content of the letter: The letter opens with the report: “Thank G-d, everything is proceeding properly. May the Almighty help you recover and rejoice in practice in my joy.” He continues with a report concerning efforts being made through various channels: “No news has been heard from Bendin. Reb Meir Frider, whom you know, suggests a somewhat different approach. If by tomorrow there is still no good news, perhaps we shall make efforts through him.” The Imrei Emes concludes the letter: “With nothing new to report, I remain your brother-in-law who seeks your welfare, and greetings to my dear sister, may she live. Avraham Mordechai Alter.” The Imrei Emes then proceeds to request clarification from “Harav HaTzaddik of Sokołów” regarding a resolution of the Rambam's discussion concerning an Androgynos. Along the margin of the page, he later added: “Further news has arrived that I am likewise unable to do more in this matter, and may Hashem have mercy and bring my wishes to success speedily.” The letter appears to reveal only part of the story while concealing much more, apparently coordinating efforts to secure the release of Jews from imprisonment. Its cryptic and obscure style seems intended to conceal the rescue plans and related activities from the hostile authorities and their censorship apparatus.
