Letter in His Holy Handwriting of the Admor Harav HaKadosh the “Beis Avraham” of Slonim – written to Rabbi Yosef Shub, director of the “Vaad HaYeshivos” – Elul, early 1930s – Never printed “ Kesivah V'Chasimah Tovah in the Sefer HaChaim … and he blesses him with a good year” Before us is a letter in the holy writing and signature of Harav HaKadosh Rabbi Avraham Weinberg of Slonim, author of “Beis Avraham, ” dated the second day of Rosh Chodesh Elul of one of the early 1930s. From the content of the letter it appears that Rabbi Yosef Shub requested that the “Beis Avraham” join a delegation to a certain wealthy individual in order to solicit funds for a Mitzvah, and to this he responds: “Kesivah V'Chasimah Tovah B'Sefer HaChaim to my honored friend, Harav HaGaon, renowned for his wisdom and fear of Heaven, the distinguished and active Rav… Rabbi Yosef Shub... Shalom U'Verucho. After the blessing, I received his esteemed letter from the 25th of Menachem Av. And behold, it is surprising that he did not mention the time when this delegation will take place, for then I would know to give him a clear response. But at present, according to my understanding, most [of his residence?] is generally in summer retreats, and the time is not suitable for this, only after the Yamim Tovim, and then I will be able, with Hashem’s help, to take part pleasantly in this Mitzvah. And if they have decided to carry out the mission in these days – they should inform me, and if it will be possible for me to come to the assistance of Hashem among the mighty with all my heart… I will hasten to be attached to those who perform a Mitzvah. The one who honors him and blesses him with a good year, signing with a blessing for all those engaged in the sacred work of the Mitzvah of sustaining the Holy Torah – Avraham of Slonim.” The Admor Harav HaKadosh Rabbi Avraham Weinberg of Slonim (the second), author of “Beis Avraham” (1884–1933), a Chassid and ascetic, a holy and awe-inspiring man of God. Son of the “Divrei Shmuel” of Slonim. He began leading the Slonim Chassidus in 1916. After the end of World War I, he began rebuilding the ruins of the Chassidus. Until 1929, he resided in Białystok, and in 1929 he moved to Baranavichy. His principal renown in the Chasidic world for generations was his Avodas Hashem in his prayers and at his tables, which were conducted with stormy emotion and exalted devotion. His prayers and “ Shmusin ” left a powerful and lasting impression on the souls of his listeners until their final day. “Every statement that emerged from His Holy Mouth in holiness and purity was like an assault on the inner enemy, such that if it were stone it would melt. It would shake the entire inner being of soul, spirit, and Neshamah to the kidneys and heart, creating an inner transformation and illuminating the eyes of those who walk in darkness with no light, with the light of a life of holiness, the light of Shabbos Kodesh, the light of Torah and Emunah” (from the introduction of his foremost disciple, the “Nesivos Shalom, ” to the Sefer “Beis Avraham”). He was likewise renowned for his holiness and purity and his complete separation from worldly matters. “In matters of holy living and asceticism, he was like one of the early ones, and great things are told about him in these matters beyond human comprehension” (ibid.). The Rebbe of Slonim wrote about him after his passing that he “conversed with his inclination [overcame his inclination] more than Yosef HaTzaddik” [based on Gittin 57a]. His holy teachings were written and printed in his famous Sefer “Beis Avraham, ” by his great disciple, the “Nesivos Shalom” of Slonim zy”a. The letter is written on official stationery of: “The holy Yeshiva and the Kibutz ‘Toras Chesed’ under the supervision and administration of the Admor shlit”a of Slonim – Baranavichy.” [1] leaf. 21 cm.
