Long responsum in the handwriting of HaGaon the Aderet. Ponevezh, 1877. Responsum on various matters, including practical Halachah, in the handwriting and signature of HaGaon Rabbi Eliyahu David Rabinowitz-Teomim — the Aderet. Ponevezh, 1877. [8] pages, densely written manuscript. The present responsum of the Aderet was written to Rabbi Yisrael Hirsch, Av Beis Din of Yaneshkel, near Ponevezh. The responsum discusses three subjects: A. The ruling of the Rambam that the Parah is performed by an ordinary Kohen. B. The ruling of the Rambam that the Olas Re’iyah may be brought from a bird. C. Practical notes regarding convulsive movement of the head in fowl and livestock. Signature of the Aderet in the margin of p. [7]: 'ובזה הנני ידידו אליהו דוד, השמח בהצלחתו ומברכו בכט”ס' Maran the great and renowned Gaon Rabbi Eliyahu David Rabinowitz-Teomim — the Aderet (1843–1905) — among the Gedolei Yisrael of his generation. Rav of the communities of Ponevezh and Mir in Lithuania, and at the end of his life, Rav of Jerusalem. He authored Torah compositions, many of them pioneering works in their field and unique of their kind. His renowned and celebrated son-in-law was Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook.
