Letter from Rabbi Noach Tzvi Steiman to his son Rabbi Aharon Leib Steinman! During his stay in Switzerland. Brisk, 1938. In 1936, Rabbi Aharon Leib received a draft order to the Polish army. For this purpose, he changed his surname from Steiman to Steinman in order to present himself as an only son (an only son was exempt from military service). However, this attempt was unsuccessful, and he therefore fled to Switzerland together with his close friend and neighbor, Rabbi Moshe Soloveitchik, son of Rabbi Yisrael Gershon, son of the Gaon of the generation Rabbi Chaim of Brisk, and great-grandson of Maran the Chiddushei HaRim of Gur.
