HaGaon Rabbi Yitzchak Yerucham Diskin (1839–1925) — an extraordinary Torah genius and one of the foremost sages of his generation. The only son of the great Torah leader Maran the Maharil Diskin, known as the “Saraf of Brisk.” He received his Torah education from his father. Following his father's passing, he declined requests from the leaders of the Old Yishuv in Jerusalem to immigrate to Eretz Yisrael and assume leadership of its institutions and community. He eventually settled in Eretz Yisrael in 1908 and, following the passing of Rabbi Shmuel Salant, effectively filled the role of Jerusalem’s leading rabbinic authority, although he never formally assumed the position.
